Early this morning at about 7:30, Momma and I woke up to watch the 2nd Annual Mississauga Marathon. We originally planned to see the start at the City Hall, about 2.5 km away from home. To do that, we were prepared to walk the 2.5km; firstly, because we wanted to have our own exercise without actually doing the run. Secondly, vehicular traffic was banned and just to drive to there would take a very long rounabout way.
As it turned out, we were not prompt enough waking up and ended watching along the route, which was not bad as it's just at Burnhamrhorpe Rd., a mere 2 blocks away. The sorry thing is that we missed our 2.5km planned exercise. We tried to compensate for that by running/jogging/walking back-and forth on the sidewalk while clapping for and cheering the gutsy marathoners.
(There's Momma in one of the pictures I took.)
The runners were of all shapes, sizes, sexes and seemingly all ages (no little boys or girls). Only two km. away from the starting line and you could tell who was tired - a lot of them were just walking already. It was nice to see them though and it made me dream about running the marathon some day in the near future - which is not a bad idea. I think I will persuade Albert to train for it with me for next year. (What do you think?)
Question for Jeffrey, our very own marathoner: Is it normal for the runners, or at least some of them, to just shed and discard some of their heavier clothes along the road? What a waste because some of the discarded pieces of clothing were of the expensive variety. Jeff, we're half-expecting a surprise with you among the throng. (Yes, throng, because for thirty minutes, at least, the whole eastbound lane of the road from one end to the other was crowded with running people.) Maybe next year, Jeff?
